Course participants must usually be 18 years or over.
We may be prepared to accept applications from under 18s only if they are non-resident and are in a group with at least two adults who are prepared to accept responsibility for them.
Applications are preferred from pre-formed string quartets. Depending on circumstances, we may be able to accept applications from string trios, quintets or sextets, or small groups containing other instruments such as piano or a woodwind instrument.
Individuals may apply but their application will only be accepted if it possible to incorporate them into a group. This may only be possible if a pre-formed group needs to replace a member at short notice.
Please note that some accessible bedrooms and ground-floor or lift-accessible rehearsal rooms can be made available by request, and the rest of the college site is reasonably accessible but, unless requested, some participants may be allocated bedrooms and playing rooms on the first or second floor level, with no lift access.
For those opting to be residential, accommodation is in single bedrooms (although one or two twin rooms may be available) and a number of ensuite bedrooms are available at a premium. Please bring your own towel and toiletries; bedding is provided.
Parking in central Oxford is almost impossible. Those coming by car can drop off bags and instruments at the college; there are a very few parking spaces on-site which will be reserved for participants with serious mobility issues. Others will have to explore the suburbs or use one of the Park and Ride sites around Oxford. Normally parking at these is restricted to 72 hours which is just not enough to cover the course duration, but you can get a 28-day permit for £30.
Meals are provided by the college’s catering staff who can cater for most dietary requirements. Please state any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
You are responsible for ensuring your belongings, including your instruments, are adequately insured.
